Since 1925, Kolb Electric has been providing top-quality residential electrical services in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Since the beginning, one of our highest priorities has been helping people save money on their energy bills by helping them explore energy-efficient solutions for their homes.
One of the best ways to save money is with an infrared thermography inspection from Kolb Electric! Using an infrared camera, our licensed, trained technicians will identify hidden areas where your home is losing energy. Some things we’ll identify include:
- Faulty wiring, breakers and fuses ·
- Hidden moisture intrusion ·
- The moisture sources of mold ·
- Pipe and duct work leaks ·
- Roof and ceiling leaks ·
- Foundation cracks ·
- Heat/energy loss ·
- Structural concerns ·
- Missing insulation ·
- Ventilation problems ·
- Moisture associated with termite nests ·
- Rats, mice and other pests.
What are the benefits of infrared thermography inspections?
When combined with traditional home inspection techniques, the infrared thermography inspection method reveals considerably more about your house than can be seen with conventional inspection tools. Some things our infrared thermography inspections have detected include:
Water leaks: using an infrared camera to scan the inside of your home can reveal moisture leakage around plumbing systems, the roof, any windows, etc. We’ll be able to see then because wetter areas with more moisture will appear darker than surrounding warmer, dry areas.
Insulation deficiencies: our scanners will reveal large temperature differences within your home where insulation is deficient or absent.
Roof leaks: scanning roof coverings can reveal water intrusion and moisture accumulation below the surface. This type of roof inspection is best done in the evening or early nighttime after heat from the sun has dissipated.
Electrical systems: an infrared thermography inspection will make electrical system deficiencies easy to see. For instance, we’ll be able to see deficient connections between electrical components which can result in resistance (these will show up hotter than other types of connections).
Structural issues: differences in thermal capacity, conductivity, and other intrinsic qualities of building structural components can allow for their detection when scanning walls, floors, and ceilings with an infrared camera. Under the right conditions, missing structural components, and portions of structural components which are damaged (to the extent that their intrinsic qualities are significantly changed), can be detected.
